Southern Survey and Design has on staff pipe designers that work daily with inspectors, fabricators, installers, and surveyors to deliver process flow solutions for our clients. From detailed hand drawn isometric sketches to 3D models created from LiDAR data using CADD software, these data driven products create quality isometric drawings and accurate P&ID’s. Pre-Fabrication, Issued for Design (IFD), Model Review “Walk-Down”, Issued for Construction (IFC), or As-Built Documentation, “Our goal is to limit the expense of in-field welding and install delays by improving your documentation and drawings.”
onsite field sketches
Some projects may need quick, but detailed, turnarounds. An onsite field sketch of existing piping or newly fabricated spools can be sketched with measurements to 1/16” and a list of existing materials. These sketches could easily be digitized in CADD software as a good start to either build your design project around or provide the “As-Built” documentation for your records. .

Using CADD software, smart models can be published to in various viewport templates to show details in two dimensions - plan and profile views (side, front, and back) or three dimensional model perspective views in isometric of either wire frame or diagramed details. The addition of item details and specifications to the smart objects in the CADD model can be included for publication to create a host of project documentation and augmented reality products for your team to discuss important details on your project. The use of these CADD outputs can include P&IDs, Published Plans with multiple views, Demolition Plans, Line Lists, Tie-In Lists, and Bills of Material.
model review
During any phase of your project, your team can “Walk Down” a job in an augmented reality with our pipe designers to help facilitate the discussion to project success. Model Reviews can be held virtually or in person. The displayed visuals can be navigated using various softwares including Navisworks, Plant 3D, or the inclusion of a LiDAR point cloud. It is our experience that these Model Review sessions add great value to your projects.

Easy to read plans can be Issued for Construction (IFC) that could include all aspects of your project including: Project Work Phases, Demolition Plans, Foundation Location Plans, Foundation Details, Pipe Rack Plan and Profiles, Instrumentation and Equipment Details, and any other necessary documentation. Our team easily works with your existing consultants, contractors, and 3rd party vendors to deliver the best data and documents available to your project.

When existing “As-Is” details of dimension and location are critical to reducing costs during your design phase, there is no better alternative to using terrestrial LiDAR to collect millions of x,y,z survey points. This is especially useful in a complex environment were conventional survey methods just cannot collect the scope and level of detail. On all sites, there exists spatial coordinate systems that our surveyors specialize in to collect, adjust, and apply measurement data. These site based coordinate systems allow either 3rd party vendors or our own inter-department Trendsetter Construction, Inc. employees to fabricate, install, and complete your projects without costly overruns of either time loss to your schedule or by material misfits. The advantage of using Southern Survey’s site surveyors, LiDAR processors, and Pipe Designer’s on the same project as Trendsetter’s fabricators and installers is the power of reducing costs.
